Founder's Story

The 2 founding board members of Action Haiti, Eustache and Kristina Duverna, want to fulfill their passion to help and support Haitians in need. Eustache Duverna was born and raised in Haiti, and understands fully, the need for a better education system in Haiti. He has worked with several missionary organizations in Haiti, assisting in helping with the spiritual and education growth of Haitians. Eustache met Kristina while working for a missionary run orphanage in Petion-Ville, eventually marrying then moving to Canada to be with Kristina in May of 2003. He and Kristina determined to eventually return to make a difference in the lives of his fellow Haitians.

Kristina Duverna has always had a passion for missions. Haiti became a place of interest to minister to after her parents adopted 3 children from an orphanage run by missionaries in Haiti. In 2002, Kristina decided to volunteer at this missionary run orphanage in Haiti. She met Eustache Duverna and got married, before leaving in April of 2003 to go back to Canada, to be joined by Eustache the very next month. Kristina and Eustache have two young boys Evan Duverna (born July 2005) and Ethan Duverna (born February 2007).

Together, Eustache and Kristina Duverna want to fulfill their passion to help the people of Haiti. Determining that the greatest need and chance for change was in education, the idea was formulated to start a vocational school. While discussing and exchanging ideas and goals, the realization that the greatest need was to open up preschool, elementary and high schools, therefore this formed the early plans, which now make up Action Haiti.
